Job title                                Lead Development Engineer  

Salary - negotiable

Solartron Metrology is looking for a Lead Development Engineer  to join the Engineering team at our Bognor Regis Head Office.

Solartron Metrology Ltd is a leading, fast paced UK manufacturer of digital measurement systems. Due to rapid organic growth, we are looking to increase our development team. 

To lead and manage a small team within the Engineering Group (3 Firmware, 2 Software and 2 Electronic Engineers) to ensure that new products are designed and manufactured efficiently and cost effectively to meet market and customer demands.   

Primary Experiences (Essential)

  • Prepare designs and concepts to present to management, colleagues and customers.
  • Create product specifications
  • Produce product cost estimates, development cost estimates
  • Perform solid cost-effective electronics design including analogue, ensuring good choice of components and consider dual source where required.
  • Able to demonstrate a logical approach to problem solving,
  • Create circuit schematics, PCB layouts using CAD
    • Design and schematics – products typically require a microcontroller, digital logic, A/D conversion and a connection to the external world. Also, some analogue skills to interface with transducers. (Note the analogue design is not high frequency)
    • PCB layout using Easy PC or similar.Experience of this package is not essential but the ability to show competence in another package is.
  • Write Specifications and top-level product descriptions
  • Able to manage/mentor a small team of engineers.
  • Manage effective testing to ensure products meet specifications
  • Support the Materials Team with component obsolescence.
  • Oversee the production of Bills of Materials
  • Hands on testing & prototypes

    Additional advantageous skills include:

  • Experience with GIT or similar change control system
  • C++/C
  • Basic Understanding of firmware

Other duties:

You will be expected to carry out other duties as required that are commensurate with your position in the company and your skill level. You must remain up to date with regulations concerning the design and manufacture of electronics-based products.  You will need to be confident to liaise with Managers from other departments and the Senior Management Team.
You are responsible for working within the company Health and Safety Guidelines at all times Ensure that all activities and processes are carried out in accordance with all relevant applicable health & safety legislation.

We are looking for Production Operators to join the team initially for a six-month assignment.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of working to targets, be motivated and keen to learn new skills.
